At Murphy & Prachthauser, our attorneys are active members of the communities we serve, and it’s very important to our team that we are giving back whenever we can. This month, Murphy & Prachthauser sponsored and had attorneys participate in two different 5Ks benefiting local charities.
Both of these 5Ks benefit causes that are near and dear to our legal team. If you’re not already familiar with these organizations, please take the time to learn more about them, and hopefully, we’ll see you at these events next year!
Not Just A Walk In The Park 5K
Earlier this month, we sponsored West Bend Columns' Not Just A Walk In The Park 5K. Columns provides academic and technical scholarships to West Bend East and West High Schools’ graduates to advance their education. Since 2001, Columns has awarded over $3,000,000 in scholarships - representing over 1,000 individual scholarships. This year the event raised $30,000 for local high school graduates.
Our own attorney, Michelle Hockers, who is also on the board of directors for Columns and an organizer for this event, finished first in her age group this year.
"We're happy to be able to help students in our community get a great head start as they continue their education beyond high school.” - Michelle Hockers
Columns also hosts a Holiday Pops Concert in December with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. You can learn more about this benefit concert at West Bend Columns' website.
Ethan's Run Against Addiction 5K
Ethan's Run Against Addiction 5K raises funds that help ensure that those with the disease of addiction can receive treatment and raise awareness around and destigmatize addiction. During this year's event, over 600 people participated (virtually or in-person), and over $90,000 in scholarships for treatment was raised.
During this event, past recipients of the scholarship bravely shared their powerful stories. They expressed that they most likely wouldn’t be here today without their scholarships, which helped get them into recovery treatment when they otherwise wouldn’t have been able to.
Both Thadd and Kate Llaurado participated in honor of and as a member of Team George Moore IV. Kate Llaurado even placed first overall for female runners!
We encourage you to learn more about the work done to save lives and destigmatize addiction by visiting EthansFund.org.
